The Eternal Iron mine discovery literally put Iron Rock on the map when it was founded in 1963. With a small population of only 152 residents, nearly everyone worked the mines, but these were no ordinary Iron Mines. Over 60% of the population of Iron Rock has undergone some form of genetic mutation. Some residents have developed unique skills, such as enhanced hearing, proclivity for certain branches of Science, night vision, the ability to heal themselves and even others. And then, the unthinkable happened, in the blink of an eye, tragedy struck the small mining town, with The Fall Of Iron Rock. Mystery Trackers Agent Redford was on assignment scouting for recruits with unique abilities, at Iron Rock when the horrific accident occurred. He hasn't been heard from since the accident. Agent Elf has joined you on a recognizance mission to find the missing agent, and gather information about the newly appointed Mayor who seems to have some very unique abilities. A genetic mutation that could result in deadly consequences! <bark, bark> (Elf is deeply concerned)
The Fall of Iron Rock may only have 3 Chapters, but they are very long chapters, and the CE Bonus Chapter is longer than most other Bonus Chapters. I started playing this morning before the sun woke up and it took me about 5.5 hours to complete the game. I need to figure out how to do that "speed-gaming" scenario, perhaps I should just read the SG and skip all that actual playing stuff? I think Elephant Games has gone back to their roots with this Mystery Trackers game. Their games lately have had so many cliche tasks, and involve placing an emblem on every single door, drawer, and closet, even the emblems required emblems, but things are looking up with this Mystery Trackers. There's still an occasional cliche task, and a few "why did I ditch this valuable tool only to need it in the next scene" Not once did I have to bargain with a raccoon who understands and comprehends the English language, by offering food in exchange for retrieving an item hidden in the depths of his den. Not once did I have to play dress up and place valuable jewelry upon a solid granite statue who, out of sheer gratitude, extends a granite arm to hand me a much-needed inventory item, how nice :) I did, however, have some issues with the game freezing up on 3 serarate occasions!
There is a Helper, but this time it's a good thing because Mystery Trackers wouldn't be the same without the help of that adorable MinPin, Agent Elf! (one day I'm going to introduce him to Mr. Jenkins!) Don't worry, he's housebroken, he's not annoying, and he rarely barks, he does shed a bit though. Agent Elf does his Mystery Trackers duties (doodies? haha, maybe he's not housebroken) 9 times during the Main Game and he isn't used at all in the CE Bonus Chapter. I probably wouldn't play MT games if Elf wasn't included, technically, Elf is only 7 years old because he didn't become an Agent until Black Isle, so we should be good for a while.
Elephant Games has done an excellent job with the CE Morphing Objects, they are small objects that don't look out of place, and they morph at just the right speed to make them obscure. There are Zoom Zone Puzzle Fragments that allow you to set the finished image as a Screensaver, but the images are assembled for you automatically. This feature is a wasted opportunity, they should have allowed us to assemble the puzzle (& with real jigsaw pieces, not scraps) I would go absolutely nutz if they offered a Jigsaw Puzzle Screensaver that you could choose how many pieces you wanted! (as in large sizes 3000 pieces and up) if only...
There are 12 Hidden Object Scenes and 6 Zoom Zone Hidden Object Scenes in the main game, +5 in the Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter. They did a great job blending some of the objects to make them somewhat Challenging. There are Interactive List Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Multiples of the Same Object Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Swatches Finds (click on the exact area that matches the tiles shown) Highlighted Image Finds, Finding Objects to Open Listed Item Finds, and one of my favorites, Uncovering Matching Pair Finds. There is no alternate puzzle offered. FYI: one of the achievements requires you to complete a Hidden Object Scene in over 10 minutes, so take your time with one of them!
There are actually 16 Mini-Games within the Main Chapters +5 in the Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter. The Mini-Games start out very simplistic and easy to solve, but they do become progressively harder to solve. I loved that some of the more familiar puzzles were tweaked, making them much more difficult than I had anticipated. Below are brief descriptions of some of the mini-games that I enjoyed throughout the game:
1~A variation of "Blocks", move wooden blocks to allow the Red Block to exit.
2~Use directional arrows to navigate a maze with a flashlight.
3~Enter the correct numbers according to pictured symbols & equations. ღ
4~Turn all tiles Blue, clicking one may affect others.
5~Find the spare batteries & code to turn all switches on. ღ
6~Click the numbers in the right sequence, click the Key to test your choices, green when correct. ღღ
7~Use directional arrows to guide the silver ball to the hole, using gold balls as bumpers. ღ
8~Light up all numbers on the clock by selecting 3 moves Right or 2 moves Left. ღ
9~Mosaic Griddler game filling in cells correctly (no X cell options)
The Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter takes place shortly after the Main Games' timeframe, playing as Iron Rock's best night-vision recruit, Rachael. Agent Shade and the young Agent-in-Training return to Iron Rock to investigate sightings of the mysterious, otherworldly Dark Trackers Agency. Agent Shade becomes injured by a strange device when a crazed psychopath rampages the city, leaving poor Rachael to fly solo without her trusted mentor. There are 5 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes, but unfortunately, Elf doesn't make an appearance because you play as Rachael. (I was a little bummed out because I love ღ Elf) There are 8 Scene Locations in the CE Bonus Chapter and you'll pick up the final 8 Morphing Objects (1 per scene) and 3 Mineral Collections. The final Postcard Screensaver will be completed when you find the remaining 9 Zoom Zone Puzzle Fragments as well.

This Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers (well, at least 3 of them don't have the game character's ruining the picturesque background) 8 Concept Art Pictures, 3 Postcard Screensavers (after finding 7~16~9 Puzzle Fragments) 3 Music Soundtracks, 22 Achievements, 27 Morphing Objects (one per scene) 13 Collectible Minerals (with origins & usages) 32 Zoom~Zone Puzzle Fragments (creates 3 Screensavers) A Secret Room with 13 Re-playable Mini-Games & 14 Re-playable Hidden Object Scenes (opens after completing the Bonus Chapter) 3 Main Chapters (very long chapters) +Bonus Chapter (lengthy) and a Built-in Strategy Guide.

Mystery Trackers returns with The Fall of Iron Rock the 16th game in this long-running series. IMHO, the game is wonderful and it somehow seems reminiscent of Raincliff that was my all-time favorite Mystery Trackers game. In The Fall of Iron Rock you have been sent to the town of Iron Rock to see if you can find agent Redford who disappeared while investigating reports of town residents who possessed paranormal abilities. With your pal Elf by your side, you are on your way to finding the missing agent.
Mystery Trackers would not be the same without Elf and I am always happy to watch his antics as he sets off to retrieve some items that I might need to progress in the game. As another reviewer commented he might not be for everyone but Elf does have a fan base.
Although the game is not difficult it is perfect for the way I like to play but there were times that I did need to use the hint button as I couldn’t figure out where to find something I needed. Of course I play the game with the sparkles turned off so I am not having the constant sparkle hints indicating active areas.
I love the HOPS in the game since the original list type is my favorite. The is also variety included with the HOPS and Mini-HOPS where we find items by silhouette, reading a story, or finding matching pairs. No matter what type of HOP appears in the game it generally includes some interactivity before you can find certain items. Thankfully, the game has a balance between the HOPS and the Puzzles so the game does not seem overwhelmed by one or the other. The Puzzles in the game are excellent and many of my favorites are included in the mix.
Since I don’t want to give away what happens in Iron Rock I will l simply say that it did have a few surprises and the game is one that I recommend you purchase so you can see the whole storyline unfold. I couldn’t wait to buy the game because it is one of the best in the Mystery Trackers series. As always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if Mystery Trackers The Fall of Iron Rock is a game you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming! Show less

One of the better series. This one I liked the story line since it was different . A little odd but understandable.
The scenes were not very colorful but I thinks the doomish nature of the game makes me think this is part of the game. Bright colors and prancing unicorns is not part of the Mystery Trackers story line so if your looking for extra happiness in this game it may not be for you.

This seem a bit short of a game with the bonus chapter longer than most so evened out a little.
One does search for item a bit with the bonus part even more so.
I have played many of the other Mystery Trackers games and I rate this one high but not the best.
Get this one with one of the sales that pop up which I did.The bonus part of the game was just the extra game so not worth the full price I think. The game had morphine items and collector items but once finished one can't go back and find the ones missed which is one of my biggest pet peeve with collectors games. There twice as much but not worth it to me then.
I rated the game and not the extra's that were not there. Show less

REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME:
3 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 41 Pages
OPINION: Although this is not my favorite series from this developer, I found this game one of the better ones within this series. The story behind the game is a sci-fi delight with a twist of suspense. The graphics contain sci-fi elements and there are gadgets galore within this game. I found the game somewhat short, but creatively designed. There is some traveling back-and-forth between scenes; however, it is not excessive. I found the pace decent with plenty of activities. This is a great easy breezy game for those who love this series.
There are an equal number of HOP scenes and mini-games – twenty-two (22) of each. There is a variety of styles for the HOP scenes, but most of the scenes are lists of items and silhouette. Nevertheless, there are matching, storybook, and pattern scenes as well. There are few multiple-step ones with two different styles of scenes. They are somewhat interactive. There are a couple of scenes which I found creatively designed, including one which requires searching for items to build a hairdryer.
The mini-games vary in style, but most are thematic and easy with a few which are moderately difficult. There are some which are multiple-step as well. I enjoyed the puzzles, especially the nonogram (griddler) puzzle, which is not seen in many HOP games.
ELF RETURNS: For those who are dog lovers, Elf returns. Nevertheless, he is used sparingly within the game. He is used to retrieve needed items. I feel this game would stand on its own merit without this gimmicky pooch; however, I know there is a huge fan base for Elf. It is a personal preference; however, I would prefer to see helpers and other gimmicks removed from these games.
MECHANICS:
• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• Twenty-three (23) achievements.
• Collect thirty (30) postcard pieces for three (3) postcards
• Collect twenty-seven (27) morphing objects
• Collect twelve (12) gemstones and minerals
• Eight (8) wallpapers along with concept art and music.
• Helper Elf returns to retrieve items.
• Replay thirteen (13) mini-games and fourteen (14) HOP scenes contained in a Secret Room.
STORY/OVERVIEW: Grab your hard hat as you enter the sparsely populated mining town, Iron Rock. After crash landing your plane, you are off to locate a missing agent. The few inhabitants of this burg possess special abilities provided by the special properties of Eternal Iron. There are hidden secrets in this town and a masked mayor who keeps its inhabitants under surveillance, using robots to imprison them within its borders. Now you must not only locate the missing agent, but also must tackle this mayor and plan your escape.
BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel. As Rachel, a new trainee for the Mystery Trackers, return to Iron Rock. The Dark Trackers have invaded this town and are up to their usual nefarious activities. When your mentor, Agent Shade, becomes injured, it will be up you to save her and stop the Dark Trackers from their dastardly deeds. The chapter is of decent length. There are six (6) HOP scenes and five (5) mini-puzzles. Collectibles continue to be collected within the chapter. However, alas! Elf disappears and is no where to be seen!
SPOILERS: HERE ARE A FEW OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO:
A. Tracing puzzle. Move a chip on a grid to recreate a mirror image of a given image
B. Multiple step. (1) Mathematical puzzle. Decipher a code based on mathematical principles (2) Logic puzzle. Press on squares on a 4 x 4 grid so that all squares are changed from green to blue. Pressing a square will change the color of the ones in the same row and column as the square (3) Sequence puzzle. Press on lights so all are lit. Lighting one affects the others.
C. Sequence puzzle. On a clock, push on “fingers” which move the clock hand either three spaces clockwise or two spaces counterclockwise to light all numbers on the clock.
D. Nonogram puzzle. Push in numbers on a grid so that the number of squares pushed equals the number listed at the top of the columns and rows.
E. Multiple step. (1) Bullseye. Zap psychic rays with your super-duper psychic ray device. (2) Rope puzzle. Untangle lines so they don’t cross each other.
BONUS CHAPTER:
F. Connection puzzle. Create a path from the town hall to a house by creating a path by clicking arrows. You cannot retrace your steps.
G. Maze puzzle. Plot steps before moving through a set of mazes. Use arrows at the top. There are a specific number of moves to traverse through each maze. 3X

Our seventeenth Mystery Trackers Game has arrived. We play as a new agent sent, with Elf, to look for Agent Redford who has been missing for some time. Elf and I parachute into his approximate location after our plane crashes near Iron Rock. All is not as it should be in this town built to support a mine. A tragedy killed most of the local citizens and the few that are left seem to be prisoners in their own town.
Good stuff: All of the usual game elements are here along with a variety of collectibles and CE bling. As an Elf fan, I consider his presence a definite plus as the only non-cloying, not-overly-cute animal helper around.
Bad stuff: I am seriously over broken zipper pulls, angry bees, convenient lock picks, random grind stones, and skeletons with amulets and tools still clutched in their fingers.
Bottom line: The story holds promise and I am going with that thought. The last few MT entries were way too average and this one seems to rise above that lowest common denominator with a fresh mystery story with better characters. The story of Iron Rock seemed to offer adventure and promise.
Please try the Demo. I hope you find what you are looking for too. Show less

Recently purchased this game as Mystery Trackers is one of my favorite game series. I just wish Elephant would bear in mind that there are old people playing their games and not with the best eyesight. The morphing objects were way too small for my old eyes. Half the time I had to have my son find it for me or use the guide. Other than that so far am enjoying the game (about 1/4 the way thru).

Let me start with the fact that I would buy this game again. Cons: Game was too easy. Also the game starts out excellent and the storyline gets lame in the last chapter. Also, there were a few bugs in the game when we played it. I had to exit and re-enter to "override". Still worth the play.

Hello friends! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to others. However, I usually always say something about the story as well. Hello friends! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to others. However, I usually always say something about the story as well. This series just keeps on going...I've lost track of how many this one makes. As usual with this developer and series, we have excellent graphics, very clear, with no blurring when going in and out of close ups. Game play was very nice, with no problems during the demo. Colors are very nice, even though a bit muted and faded looking. Animation is very well done, with very smooth movements and appropriate facial movements, depending on what is happening at the time. The voice overs are well done, being age and character appropriate, and show emotion, not just someone reading a script. Not a lot of character interaction during the demo, but enough to keep you from getting bored. Music is mostly very quiet unless something is about to happen. Sound FX are very well done, especially the storm sounds. Our ever faithful Elf is back with us, helping as much as he can. Mostly he sit quietly until we need him.
HOPs are quite varied, with straight lists, silhouettes, and match picture pieces. Scenes are fairly clean and items are not difficult to find. I did not see where you could switch to something else if you did not care for the HOPs. Puzzles were really simple in this addition, and took no time or thought to complete. Maybe they get more challenging as we progress. Hint system is very helpful and it does transport to longer locations. Yes, we do a lot of back tracking in this game, so the transport is a real time saver. You have a jump map, but it is very plain and boring.
Collectibles were nice. We have a combination of morphing items, which morph fairly quickly, and sometimes very small and hard to see. We also have postcard puzzle pieces, which are fairly large, but easy to miss. We also have to find 12 various collectibles. These are very easy to miss. Well done.
The story wasn't anything new or exciting really. Yes, we have a bad guy who has taken over the town, and suddenly, people begin having special powers. Why, what's causing this to happen? The story flowed fairly well and was easy to follow. there was enough going on to keep you interested and busy, even with the amount of backtracking we have. I didn't find this one particularly challenging, but I like this series and and the story, so I need to play it out and see what's happening and why. Is the masked bad guy really a bad guy? I think all levels of players will find this one interesting. Gave this one a 4.5, mostly due to the lack of any real challenge. This could also change as the game progresses. Liked it, gotta have it, so yes, I am adding this one to my ever growing collection of CE games.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on! Show less
